Designed by Taiwanese artist Chishen Chiu, the eye-catching sofa is made of recycled paper and wood. Titled “FlexibleLove”, the eco-sofa is an adaptable piece of art, which can be extended into a 12 seat bench or compacted down into a seat chair. Thanks to the sable perforate structure, the sofa remains in an optimal form and offers surprisingly comfortable seats, even after many years of usage. FlexibleLove is able to fit every space by wrapping it around a table or bending it backwards to create a round seating centerpiece. The long paper fiber enhances the stability and flexibility of the seating while also making it water-resistant. FlexibleLove is an innovative design sofa, creating beautiful, irregular facets.

A Tree-Inspired Single Pole Home By Konrad Wójcik

Denmark-based architect Konrad Wójcik re-imagines what it’s like to live sustainably outside of cities with the ‘Primeval symbiosis’ project. Designed while he was still an architecture student, the tree-inspired concept home for two is mounted on a single pole and covered in solar panels. The design also features a heat pump that extracts more energy from the ground as well as a biodigester to manage waste. The aim was to build a home with zero impact on the environment.

Portuguese studio Friday specializes in eco-friendly architecture and created a floating home that can be customized to an individual’s needs. The modular house can be transported anywhere and the design features a terrace, wine cellar and stove. With the use of natural materials, the structure was also created with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind. Furthermore, the house can be charged electronically and functions autonomously for up to one week, which makes it a good vehicle for trips on the water.

Sustainable Tree-Like Houses By Oas1s

Oas1s is a green housing concept that envisions buildings as trees. The futuristic-looking four-story ‘treescrapers’ feature a large facade covered in plants. Using trees as a model for the buildings, the housing units operate sustainably by consisting of recycled wood and leaves, collecting sun through solar panels and water in boilers as well as providing oxygen. The aim is to provide a green solution for housing in the future as well as meet “the deep human need to become one with nature”.

On the idea behind it, founder and designer Raimond de Hullu says: “Growing up in rural southern Holland I fell in love with nature, spending much time in the forest or at the beach. When my father went to build a house I fell in love with architecture, which later extended to urban design as well. I was always passionate to create a fusion between both, plus making a deep and lasting difference to this world. Because our cities suffocate people and spoil nature, people desire an ancient balance with nature, an urban oasis.”

Architecture studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects designed a unique sustainable house with a vertical garden as its facade in Ho Chi Minh City. The front and the back of the building consist of concrete planters that can be watered through an automatic system that collects rainwater. Additionally, the facade helps to regulate sunlight, noise and pollution in the city’s tropical climate.

Korean architecture firm SsD designed a sleek micro-housing complex to tackle the issues of urban density and rising housing costs. Located in Seoul, the structure is a ‘semi-public’ space made of fourteen units. The aim is to accommodate the changing life and work situations of residents as well as foster a sense of community through shared spaces. According to the architects, the sustainable building “becomes a soft intersection between public/private and interior/exterior, creating social fabrics between neighbors.”

A Spaceship Home By NOEM

Located on the outskirts of Madrid, ‘The Spaceship Home‘ is a futuristic design that combines sustainable features with smart home technology. The building, which was designed by Spanish architecture studio NOEM, is fully equipped with a ‘real airplane’ staircase as well as a Star Wars-style control panel that automates various processes, such as lighting, temperature and security. Additionally, the house is raised about 12 feet above the ground and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. According to NOEM, the house has an ‘A’energy efficiency rating.
