By turning public rubbish bins into giant vases filled with huge bouquets, floral designer Lewis Miller and his team are brightening up the urban jungle that is New York City. The ongoing public installation project sees Miller and his team fill empty trash cans with oversized, color-coordinated bouquets and greenery, beautifying the city’s side streets and delighting pedestrians with their unexpected magnificence. “We are storytellers through the art of floral design, transforming an arrangement into a love song and an event into an indelible experience,” explain the team.

Based in Mexico City and Berlin, Mexican artist Damián Ortega creates powerful visual metaphors with his disassembled and suspended art installations. His artworks are inspired by a wide range of trivial objects, from pick-axes to bricks, rubbish bins and tortillas, described as a “mischievous process of transformation and dysfunction.”

“Artere-a Unlimited” is the work of Spanish artist Carlos Cartama which can be considered as a result and continuation of the ideas presented in shoring of an Exhibition Space. The building stock is firstly compound inside the exhibition room. After the structure is disassembled and transferred outside, where tubes are put together again, the original exhibition space is recreated in unpredictable scenes. The tubular structure dimensions are 380x290x230cm and reproduce the volume of Artere-a’s exhibition room. The sharpness and geometry generate strangeness when placing the structure in the new location where the original container becomes the content of the artwork itself. When the viewer stands in front of the presented work, it makes him think about the relationships between the work itself, the space occupied and the comfortable place that is given to the viewer.

Created in collaboration with Now Art LA and installed by art collective Poetic Kinetics as one in a series of temporary outdoor installations, the 15,000-square feet wide public sculpture rises from 15 to 115 feet above ground level. Made from holographic mylar and monofilament, the sculpture oscillates gently in the wind, creating a glittering silver wave reminiscent of a time-lapse video. The inspiration behind the project, explains Shearn, “comes from observing nature and the feeling that we are only aware on a very surface level of what is really going on around us […] I wanted to play in that realm with this technology I have been developing.”

The famed French street artist JR has struck again, this time with two giant athlete installations across Rio de Janeiro in anticipation of the upcoming Olympic Games the city will host. Created as part of JR’s ongoing ‘inside out’ project, the pair of athletes are created on the construction scaffolding being used to prepare the city’s buildings ahead of the games. The first athlete, a high jumper, is the 27-year old Sudan-born, Germany-based Mohamed Younes Idriss, who “missed out on qualification for the 2016 rio olympics but he is there some how,” according to JR. The second installation, located near the water, represents a diver jumping into the water.
