When and where did you take the picture? Tell us a little about the idea behind it.

I took this picture last March 2015 at San Juan, La Union, Philippines where we celebrated Instagram’s 11th World Wide Instameet. This was also the time where World Water Day is being celebrated to let other people be aware that there are nearly 748 Million people who have no access to clean water. I was having a hard time thinking of a concept that will surely gather people’s attention through my picture. So I asked my very good friend John (@mvltiple) to hold this huge mirror so that the reflection of the beach and the waves would be included. It was the perfect shot, I guess.

Where are you from? How does that place influence the way you photograph?

I am from the Philippines. Currently, I live in Metro Manila, the capital of the Philippines. But I’m originally from Zamboanga, “Asia’s Latin City”. Well, it was really my first time to visit this beautiful place, La Union. The place is also known to be the Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines. It was love at first sight because the place was so laid back with the beach, the people there were hospitable and lastly it’s far away from our bustling city. I always like to be in a different environment, be it at the beach, in the forest or in the metro. Something that will always catch my attention and keeps on intriguing me would be my influence in taking photography seriously.

Who and what are the things that inspire you?

I love sharing my sentiments and stories through my photos and it’s all about the perfect timing, the tiniest of details and the “capture that moment” that makes the photograph more precious and real. But what keeps me going in taking photographs is the Instagram community. Because of this app I’ve got to meet a lot of people who share the same interests as mine. They’re also very passionate when it comes to photography. I want to inspire others and be inspired as well.

Which apps do you use to edit your pictures?

Another tough question here! I usually edit my photos through VSCO cam for the filters and sometimes I use the Instagram editing tools for the enhancements & adjustments.

Tell us a little about your everyday. (Family, friends, work, etc.)

I’m a registered nurse and a registered emergency medical technician as well. Isn’t it weird that you’re part of a medical field, yet you love photography so much? I’m the eldest one among four siblings. I don’t always stay at home because I easily get bored. I prefer to explore the outdoors alone and sometimes with the help of a friend. I always love to learn something new and explore new things, in that way I get to personally know more about myself.

When and where did you take the picture? Tell us a little about the idea behind it.

I took this picture in June 2015 at an old bunker in Berlin-Mitte where I had a fashion shooting that day. Once I saw this tree, I knew, I would love to capture it. For me, the image stands for the maximal limitation of nature in our urban environment. A glimpse of jungle within the concrete.

Where are you from? How does that place influence the way you photograph?

I live in Berlin since 2011. This city makes it quite easy to find new and interesting places. The variety of architecture and street life is big and it’s still changing a lot. In general, I have to say, the more urban, clean and structured a city looks, the more happy I am to shoot there.

Who and what are the things that inspire you?

There are actually a lot of things where I can get inspriration from. Traveling new cities and meeting interesting people in general but it could also be just a certain ray of light, a shadow, a thing to climb up to get new perspectives, a nice outfit, an interesting wall, a clean puddle, a sportsground, crazy architecture or a Wes Anderson movie.

Your favorite instagrammers?

There are so many good and inspiring accounts on Instagram. Basically everyone I follow has a certain impact on me. I like the clean style of many East- and South-East-Asian Instagrammers as well as the colorful and creative scene from Mexico, Brazil or Argentina. If I had to point out my all-time favorites these would be @nunoassis and @lindaberlin.

Which Apps do you use to edit your pictures?

No surprises, I use VSCO on almost every picture that I upload. Also the latest version of Snapseed has a lot of helpful tools to edit.

Tell us a little about your everyday. (Family, friends, work, etc.)

Originally, I studied Social Science and Journalism and worked in Marketing and Online Magazines for a few years. About two months ago, I quit my regular job to focus mainly on my visual entertainment in social networks. My friends and family are living all over the world, so I travel a lot to keep contact but Berlin is definitely my homebase, it feels good to be part of this city. For the future I try to build up a business as location expert and photographer, where I still have to work on a lot, but I enjoy what I am doing at the moment.

When and where did you take the picture? Tell us a little about the idea behind it.

A few months ago, I was shooting lots of bright and close to all-white-photos with my phone and I really like the aesthetics. Sadly, it started to bore me a bit and I like to try out new stuff, since instagram should be fun, so I changed it to a different, very contrasty look with lots of dark tones.As this is quite tough to shoot on a regular basis in a minimalistic fashion, I am always on the look for possibilities to take decent pictures like that.
When @sar_gir and I went to one of my favorite spots in Cologne where some small but wonderful galleries are located, I saw this big window in one of them I instantly liked it and thought that it might make a great backdrop for a silhouette shot of her.

Where are you from? How does that place influence the way you photograph?

Currently, I live in Cologne, one of the bigger cities of Germany. Cologne is not one of the cities known for its beautiful cityscape and its unique and shootable places are rarely spread. Because of that, I probably got a bit more aware of unique and not obvious shots for taking photos at and I think it also made me appreciate some not so conventional places and looks more than if I’d live in a city where you have a ton of stunning places. Whenever you have to take photos (not in the studio and with lots of budget) to make the best out of your possibilities.

Who and what are the things that inspire you?

Movies inspired me a lot and are also the reason I got into photography. Nowadays, films and a lot of other photographers inspire me on a day to basis. My favorite filmmakers are Michael Haneke, Gaspar Noé, Stanley Kubrick, Steve Mc Queen and David Lynch. Photographers which inspire me are (among a lot of others) Tom Hoops, Mario Gerth, Arnold Newman, Edgar Berg, Henri-Cartier Bresson, and Eliot Erwitt.

Lots of my life revolves around photography nowadays since I am done with my studies for now and I am enjoying every minute that i can take and edit photos or look at magazines and photobooks. When i am not working on photos, I drink lots of coffee, listen to music and watch movies with friends, sometimes we cook and go to exhibitions and I try to travel as often as possible.
