The client wanted a cabin for the whole family, but at the same time it needed to be divisible in some way, so Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter created a cluster of three structures, which can be used individually.
Each of the buildings is defined as a clarified geometric volume, organized around the outdoor area that binds them together as one unit. Toward the northeast, a hill borders and defines the site, together with the view in the opposite direction. The spatial interaction between landscape and the structure creates a beneficial microclimate. This is reflected by the structures’ southwest orientation, where the gable end is glazed. In the other directions the buildings appear more closed.

Studio DRAA created ‘La Leonera Mountain Retreat’, an A-shaped house inspired by the mountain retreats in Chile. Two geometrically independent volumes – rectangle and triangle – come together to form a space that blends with its surrounding while also offering a great view over the mountains.

Inside the A-framed space, a timber cladded interior unfolds, creating an elaborated contrast to the concrete exterior. A wooden stair connects both volumes, creating a continuous space that offers everything for a nice and calm holiday experience.

It all began with an invitation to see a friends cabin in Topanga Canyon. Mason St. Peter instantly fell in love with the place. There were a few cabins on the property but none of them was available to rent, so he decided to just build his own little hut.

The owner of the property encouraged their project so they started clearing the site, cataloging the materials and beginning construction in the spring of 2011. They worked mostly on weekends, twice a month for 2 years and completed the cabin in 2013. An inspiration for everyone who dreams about owning a beautiful, secluded retreat.

‘Lyset paa Lista’ by TYIN Architects is located a the southernmost point of Norway. The architects were commissioned by a group of 50 local landowners to create a small structure that would help define the dune landscape as a natural reserve with the hopes of bringing attention and funding to the beautiful area.

The design ended up being a result of improvisation and skillful tact in designing in tandem with the construction, being able to acquire available materials while leading a large group of students to create a sizable structure in only three weeks.

The Tracuit Mountain Hut (altitude 3256 metres) by Savioz Fabrizzi Architects belongs to the swiss alpine club and is situated in the heart of the Valaisan Alps.

The hut has 116 beds and is situated along the ridge above the cliff. The south façade of the building extends from the cliff and works like a large solar collector, being either glazed or covered with solar panels to make maximum use of solar energy. The other façades reflect the surrounding landscape.
The whole of the structural frame is of wood. The wall and floor components, consisting of studs/beams, insulation and cladding, were prefabricated in the factory and transported by helicopter for on-site assembly. Panels of stainless steel cladding protect the roof and outer walls from the elements.
