Photographer Jean-Baptiste Courtier who we featured previously on iGNANT is back with a new series entitled ‘The White Helmets’. The ‘White Helmets’ are a thirty-strong team of soldiers from the Royal Signals, the British Army Corps responsible for battlefield communications and information systems. The legend of the White Helmets started in 1927 with the first public display of soldiers from the Royal Signals on horses and motorcycles.
Nowadays the volunteers from the Corps – largely made up of engineers, logistics experts and systems operators – perform on Triumph 750cc motorcycles and hold events both around the UK and abroad.

We first discovered Japanese photographer Yuki Aoyama through his series ‘Solaryman’ which features fathers in their suits, striking jump poses next to their daughters, who seem to be ‘frozen’ to the spot. The fun shots are compiled into a book that uses the same title, a combination of the words salaryman and ‘sora’ for sky.

Yuki Aoyama is especially interested in uniforms and clothes that hide the individual character, such as business suits and school uniforms. For his series ‘Schoolgirl Complex’ he worked with schoolgirls in their uniforms, trying to sketch a more playful reality, that we’re normally not confronted with. You can see more of his work over on his website.

With his series ‘Monodramatic’ Daisuke Takakura imagines how it would be to meet many versions of yourself, that might look identical while they actually had different ideas, dreams and goals in mind than yourself. In Takakura’s images, these personalities meet and even interact with one another. Some play games while others shy away from the crowd. Their revealing movements and facial expressions conjure dramatics, and Takakura’s title references the theater and acting – it means a piece that’s played by a single character.

Artist and photographer Erdal Inci has created a hypnotic series of GIFs that takes the concept of cloned motion to a truly eerie level.

He states: “I realized that if you clone a recorded performance contiguously it will become perpetual. So that you can see all the time phases of the same performance in a small amount of time like 1 or 2 seconds. This gives you the chance of thinking like a choreographer with a mass crew or painter who fills its frame not in forms and colour but motion. At this point I could tell I am inspired by patterns in traditional arts & crafts , dance and repetition. Motion, performance and real environments are the outlines of the work.” Visit him on his Vimeo, Facebook or Instagram.

Thielking says: “Forced order, cemented thinking, mechanical behaviour leads to stiffness and lifelessness. We must learn to liberate internally in order to avoid stillstand.”

In Evelyn Bencicova’s series ‘Ecce Homo,’ many faceless nude bodies appear in strange positions. Some are lying on shelves or tables, while others are sprawled in masses on the floor. Ecce Homo is Latin for ‘behold the man,’ a common artistic motif with Biblical origins that has been expanded to include depictions of violence and war. Although Evelyn Bencicova’s scenes are not necessarily violent, they’re still wrapped in mystery, leaving the viewer in the dark about what has actually happened to these contorted bodies.
