London-based photographer Timo Lieber is best known for his striking images of the world from above. In his photography project ‘THAW’, he captures the fascinating beauty of the Arctic ice cap in a deliberately abstract way. The series presents a tension between his value he places on aesthetics, and a message about the harsh effects of climate change on the natural environment.

With our weekly Insta Fav Feature we offer you a chance to actively promote your own account to become a future Insta Fav on the blog.

Every Thursday we announce a certain topic via a hashtag, afterwards you’ll have 4 days to make a photo working with that topic and upload it to your Instagram using the hashtag. Who shot the best image will be featured as our Insta Fav in the following week. This weeks topic is #ignt_silhouette and here are a few rules and tips:

– This weeks goal is to create a creative image where some silhouettes of people or objects are involved.
– Please only submit your own photographs to the project and keep them in a square format. Any image tagged until Sunday 0.00 am MESZ is eligible to be featured right here.
– If you want to submit your photo, use the hashtag #ignt_silhouette and upload your photo until Sunday the 03.05 on your Instagram account. Have fun and good luck, we can’t wait to see your submissions.

Art Director & Filmmaker Tiago Ribeiro from Porto, Portugal won the following Feature with his picture for our last topic #ignt_fromabove. Thank you for all your submissions.

Follow: @tsilvaribeiro

When and where did you take the picture? Tell us a little about the idea behind it.

The photo actually has a funny story and shows exactly why Porto and the ‘portuenses’ (the locals) influence my Instagram. It was during (what I like to call a mini instameet) a visit from an instafriend from abroad. A couple of people from Porto gathered around to be with him. We had lunch, shared some stories and of course we took some photos. @wandson and @gabicsfc are the two ‘kids’ on that bike. This picture is the result of a 6 people teamwork and that’s what’s best about Porto’s instagrammers, they do the impossible so your photos are exactly what you want them to be.

Where are you from? How does that place influence the way you photograph?

I’m from Porto, Portugal.

Who and what are the things that inspire you?

The things that inspire me are probably the things that inspire everyone else, but I love to travel. That really gets to me. Meeting new people and new places always pump up my creativity. Right now I’m on an US west coast roadtrip and the things I’ve seen so far change my perspective in a lot of things. You can check it out on instagram #lifeistooshorttostayhome_usa.

Your favorite instagrammers?

The people who inspire me are also my favourite instagrammers. Number one, my better half @danielamelooliveira, she’s always up for the crazy things I put her through. She suffers a lot. But every time I see her I feel an urge to grab my iPhone and click, click, click. Number two @dcerejo. He is the reason why I began my instagram account, that guy really is a genius. It’s pretty cool to know a guy for so little time and being able to call him a friend. It’s because of him I’m such an instafanatic. The other guy, number three is @pedrosamcastro. The man has a natural ability to find beauty in the world and he has been doing a great job promoting Porto’s work on instagram.

Which Apps do you use to edit your pictures?

Right now for editing I use Afterlight (that really is my number one tool, simply love it) and I’ve started to use Snapseed from Google and I like it a lot.

Tell us a little about your everyday. (Family, friends, work, etc.)

I studied filmmaking and now I work in advertising and instagram. Yeah, that’s right. I don’t what else I can say about myself. Just that I’m a true instageek in love with my work searching for creativity wherever she might be.

US-based photographer Samantha Fortenberry created the ongoing series ‘Suds and Smiles’ for which she portrayed different types of people in a bathtub. She asked her subjects to collect an array of items that mean something to them or she designed them a set based on an idea of their choosing.

With the series, she also wanted to display the nude human body in a natural and beautiful way. Fortenberry states: “I want to collect a wide variety of people in all shapes and sizes to display the various form of beauty each person has.”

Photographer Bernhard Lang, whose work we featured previously went on vacation at a seaside resort in Adria, Italy a few years ago where he was struck by the perfectly uniform arrangements of colored umbrellas used by each hotel. Last month he returned, this time by air, and shot for several hours on the coastline between Ravenna and Rimini. Although the view is rather unsettling when you are stuck between all the vacationers and umbrellas at the beach, the patterns they create when looking from above are quite mesmerizing.

Italian photographer Sandro Giordano works on the series ‘IN EXTREMIS – bodies with no regret’, visually manipulating everyday occurrences to create twisted and often hilarious situations depicting people in the moment after a fall.
The bodies, posed in awkward positions and photographed from unflattering angles, portray a falling-down world. Giordano states: “My photos tell the stories of people who live life at an exhausting pace, experiencing sudden blackouts. When the demands of the modern world become too much to cope with, our body rebels against our brain wreaking havoc in our day-to-day life.”

Daily Overview is an amazing project that shares one satellite photo from Digital Globes a day in an attempt to change the way we see our planet Earth.

The project was inspired by the Overview Effect, which first described by author Frank White in 1987 as an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective of Earth and mankind’s place upon it. They’re having a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.

You can find out more about it in the video below. You can also follow the project via Instagram, Facebook or Tumblr.
