So the second Advent has happened. And that means that Christmas is in 15 days. Who wants to be entertained by 32 playing cards until then or on Christmas evening itself has now the chance to win A Deck of Cards (different). With a different perspective on good old jack, king, queen and ace I composed the cardgame for visual aesthetes, notorious gamblers, collectors, card fetishists, fortunetellers and drinking games (printed on water-repellent synthetic paper). It’s also available here at the iGNANT shop.

Here is an extract from my 47th MONIFAKTUR about my thoughts on the motives on the paying cards. (only in german, sorry)

To win A Deck of Cards (different) send a mail with your full name to win@ignant.de. Everyone who participates will take part in the drawing. The winner will be selected randomly, he/she will be announced here on Wednesday, December 11th. Good luck!

It’s the time of the year when you notice that you don’t have a proper rainjacket, the cheap umbrellas at the drug store are sold out, and when the cyclist become moody. It’s the time of the year when the ‘Tatort’ summer break is over and when the cinema finally screens good movies again. It’s that time of the year when I become poetic.

A poem about autumn:
»Fall.«

»That’s not rain. It’s liquid sunshine.«

The airport of Palma de Mallorca is like every other airport. Dipped in glistening bright neon light, there is not a single space which is not illuminated till the last pore- briefly, it’s a supernova. While we are rinsed from the airport, we feel young and younger. Surrounded by pensioners from the European meatpots, one steps out in the light of the Balearic sun. Quickly we leave the concrete jungle of Palma behind us, race by countless roundabout traffics and dive into the mountains. On the other side of the tunnel seems to be another world. Luxuriant vegetation, olive groves, lemon trees, picturesque mountains, an old streetcar which actually seems to come from San Francisco, and then Port de Sóller. The perfect postcard of a bay with harbour and antique seafront. The bay forms an U and is guarded on both ends by a lighthouse.

The main season still lies a long way off, the prices on the boards will be doubled in two months, but now the beach is wonderful and empty. In the restaurants it is peaceful, everybody has time, is relaxed and is glad to see you. If one has enough of food and strolling, one proceeds best of all in the nature. Wooden fences mark the entrance of footpaths which lead us along fantastic fruit tree plantations, farmhouses and old grandpas, who hand out freshly pressed orange juice. Because the look also falls over and over again on the wild serpentines which cuddle up the mountain slopes, we lend ourselves a scooter. Best of all a white Vespa which is to be driven incredibly well and defeats without problems also the most precipitous slopes. Up here there is nothing to miss: volcano-like scenery, mountain villages which are too nice to be real, wild donkeys, mountain lakes and marvellous castles. We had the feeling to have driven through five different countries when we watchend the soccer match in the setting sun and Dortmund winning against Madrid 4:1.

This is a travel report on a payable vacation in the nicest part of Mallorca, at the best time of the year and pictured with pictures.

The fastest dog of Port de Sóller is named “Elmo”. You’ll see him rollin’ on it’s own, going for a walk on the beach before he’s heading back to his owner’s shop “Bullimoto”, a nice vespa-rental on the coast.

A sexy individual showing of his curves. Soon he’ll be surrounded by kindred spirits.

Nice grandpa handing out refreshing orangejuice out of his garage to passing hikers.

Inexpensive and very nice accommodation with half-board:
Hotel Sóller Garden
Best Vespa-rental:
Bullimoto
Delicious tapas in Deia, an artist village close to Port de Sóller:
Ca’s Patro March

Secret pictures from my trip to the Ballermann you will find on my Facebookpage HERE.
Best, Monja

For you the alphabet needs only three letters: Y, O, U.

That something, that I call the little fine mine.

When I had to think of you this morning, I used deodorant instead of hairspray.

You are getting prettier every day. You already look like next week.

Today, I only have eyes for you.

HELLO (now don’t be shocked) but: with you ‘for a life-time’ sounds pretty bearable.

When I travelled to Thailand, Hua Hin, a little while ago, I was lucky to get invted by the X2 resort in Kui Buri about 40 minutes in the south. I met the architect Duangrit Bunnag who was there on vacation himself and had about twenty students with him exploring his creation.

Me in the middle, fascinated by that somehow weird but beatuiful architecture. What is very special about this site (and almost uncommon for hotels in Thailand): no trees were chopped down for the construction work. Quite the contrary: the hotel was planed around the trees, giving each one enough spaceto grow. To fit some houses in a rather small area, the architect designed domiciles that have no windows at the side, but are lit by a big front window facing the beach as well as transparent materials and open parts in the roof. Each building has a mystical pool with black tiles. Wandering around the compound, I had to stop every few metres to understand how and why the design works so well, but take a look yourself.

By the way, this is the hall from outside.

It is a huge area.

I was in Darwin, Australia for iGNANTravel and I already told you about my favourite Batik Beach and the Beer Can Regatta, that I’ve documented. Yesterday I finally picked up the photographs and sorted out and scanned some drafts of my sketchbook. So here my last output about my days in Darwin:

(Creative as I am, I called this series of photographs ‘DownUnder’)

What I didn’t know about Darwin: you better don’t go swimming in the ocean because there are many hungry saltwater crocodiles. To know and see what they were talking about I visited the Crocosaurus Cove where I got to know some pretty lazy but huge crocodiles. Amongst them was the most famous crocodile-grandpa ‘Burt’, about 80 years old, 5 meters long, about 700 kg heavy and well known through acting in ‘Crocodile Dundee’. In contrast to him I’ve also chatted with some baby crocodiles that were happily jumping around in the water.

To get an idea of the Australian Indigenous art practices which I really like I visited ‘MAGNT’, the Museum and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory. These are sketches I’ve made while walking around in the museum:

And finally a tree that I would have loved to bring home with me.
And a girl I saw sitting strangely concentrated under it.

Thanks for your attention.
Best, Monja

A mole joins the German Soccer Team: Joachim Löw is pretty damn angry at the mole, who recently revealed the line up of the German National Team for the match against Greece before the game even started… and it gave me sleepless nights as well. After watching the fitfth re-run of some TV show about unsolved football fouls, I finally detected the hidden hint. I came across the mole and convinced him to an exclusive interview. We met under the clouds of night at the current EM-onifaktur Studio, close to the ZDF football beach at Kottbuser Tor and after a long period of hesitation he finally told me about the top-secret and pretty uncommon moves for today´s match against Italy:

∆∆∆ Boateng is supposed to avert Balotelli´s offensive attacks by throwing Gina-Lisa in front of his feet.

Using complex dances inspired by wildife, Löw is working on a tactic for Mats, that is supposed to put experienced Pirlo out of sorts.

Jogi plans to let naked facts speak for themselves.

And if that should not already be enough, Özil makes the Dramatic Maki:

Let´s keep our fingers crossed,
but try to not exaggerate the situation.

Best,
Moni

In the beginning of the 80s the Compact Disc was invented to save digital data and to sell music again that had already been on the market and to replace disk records. Today the CD is more and more driven out of the market by the MP3 format and will soon only be used to carry data or serve as a frisbee.

As I am moving in a couple of days I decided to sort out my last CDs. The five CDs left were visualized by me and Eric Tiedt and immortalized on these blank discs. Although the music on our CDs might be questionable there are still some nice memories linked to it like buying your first disc or spending hours and hours in the CD shop around the corner to find the right album. Below you can find a small selection of our homage to the CD. If you would like to have one please drop a comment naming your favourite CD-Hit.
