Struck by the name of a small town in the middle of America, French photographer Ronan Guillou set out to capture the story of Truth or Consequences.
The town has a strange history. In 1950, American radio-show Truth or Consequences celebrated its tenth anniversary—marking the occasion with a special recording in whichever town would rename itself in the show’s honor. Hot Springs, a town on the banks of the Rio Grande in New Mexico won the competition and has since been known as Truth or Consequences. On his visit to the town, Ronan created a visual narrative of a place that is at simultaneously at with and against typical renderings of American small town life.
