Italian photographer Martina Ferrara offers a new take on the wondrous metropolis that is Tokyo in her ‘Tokyo Crop’ series, a set of diptychs created for AnOther Magazine.
Captured during her first trip to Tokyo, the series reflects Ferrara’s processing of her impressions of the city, which surprised her every day. Paired together on the basis of connection or contrast during the editing process, her photos offer a glimpse into the quieter moments of urban life. Speaking of her intention behind the series, Ferrara explains, “Tokyo is never totally recognized, and also the people are not really there, they are only faces, gestures, details. It is a fusion between reality and representation.”
