Turi Heisselberg Pedersen’s Contorting Objects Are Her Form Of Artistic Expression

Scroll

Danish designer Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has shared with IGNANT her latest collection of minimalist and expressive objects. They are inspired by organic forms and colors, undulating shapes, and geology.

The new pieces by the Copenhagen-based ceramicist were part of exhibitions at Puls Contemporary Ceramics in Brussels, Belgium, and the J. Lohmann Gallery in New York. She describes her works as follows: “In the interplay between culture and nature, my recent work is inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing, or folded paper shapes.” Her pieces are hand-modeled from stone and then glazed, which gives them a textured, rough, and distinct appearance. Pedersen adds: “Some of my works have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and textual freshness of the clay.”
