To launch its first knitwear-focused Spring/Summer 2020 collection, ‘The Lightness of being’, the Galicia-based label RUS has collaborated with Berlin-based artist Yasmin Bawa to create a minimal editorial that explores the relationship between human and object. The editorial was shot by photographer Marina Denisova and styled by Marie Wez in Berlin, with an exclusive preview on IGNANT.
The collection features voluminous shapes layered on top of second skin fine knits, championing clean lines and textured materials. Playing with these elements, the ethereal editorial explores the interaction between the body and Bawa’s amorphous hemp sculptures, in a juxtaposition between shape, texture, and color. “For the collection, we worked on the concept of lightness as an expression of freedom, rendering the invisible visible,” explains creative director Patricia Gutiérrez. The images in the editorial follow an earthy, muted color palette, balancing and softening the darker toned materials against the lighter colored sculptures. Pale green, yellow, lavender, and bright blue are mixed with the timeless black and off-white. The editorial was designed to convey a feeling reminiscent of the calm after a storm, instilling a subtle feeling of intimacy.
