The work of French artist Morgane Tschiember challenges our perception of shape and form. Her series ‘Open Space’ is a collection of angular light sculptures that contrast fluorescent light tubing with simple concrete forms.
The three-dimensional sculptures comprise of different shapes of concrete, which when illuminated by the white light tubes, create new geometric forms. The series continues Tschiember’s fascination with the relationship between two and three dimensional objects. A statement from the Carpenter’s Workshop Gallery explains that the sculptures “explore time, action, movement, flux and fluidity, thereby opening up the space an object takes and exploring its relationship to where it stands.” The minimal, luminous pieces double as art objects, their aesthetic function as significant as their ability to illuminate a space.
