The photography of Mexican photographer Tania Franco Klein is dislocating; capturing characters cloaked in a rich darkness seemingly searching for light.
In ‘Our Life In The Shadows’ she continues her exploration of the American dream — pointing her lens at saturated scenes where lines between the staged and the real are blurred: “My characters find themselves almost anonymous, melting in places, vanishing into them, constantly looking for any possibility of escape.” In her portraits, eyes trail to the edge of the frame: a baby stares beyond the car ceiling, a woman inspects her mottled reflection, and the white noise of a television offers a window to a world beyond: “They find themselves alone, desperate and exhausted. Constantly in an odd line between trying and feeling defeated.”
