Berlin-based photographer Zoé Beausire shows in her picture series “Rosette, Mauricette et Roby“ the relation between life and death. She portraits three elderly people and immerses deeply into intimate situations concerning social participation, body changes and alteration of life.
Through her touching photos the photographer calls attention to the inevitability of death which is often pushed away by society. What is left after retirement, after children left the parental house? How to deal with the death of friends, spouse and family members? Though the combination of inescapable changes in social life and deterioration of the entire body one is thrown back to their own personality. After all facades have crumbled and mortality is obvious, new kinds of friendships, activities and emotions arise. Beausire observes the protagonists in everyday situations and displays the narrative behind the ordinariness. “It questions loneliness; that is the human being’s nature“, explains the photographer. In this way she presents a close view of the ubiquitous issue of demographic change. Thus Beausire has taken a look on three individuals who represent all humans at the last stage of life.
