Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat and designer Raf Simons have launched their 2016 collection of upholstery textiles, inspired by Modernist furniture, contemporary art and music.
Inspired by the stripes of Franco Albini’s ‘Poltroon Segovia’ (Chairlift Chair), Simons created three key designs – Reflex, Pulsar and Fuse, the names of which reference the musical world that inspires him. Employing a bold palette that ranges from attention-grabbing primary colors to neutral grey, Simons’s designs bring out the sculptural element of the coarsely textured fabrics he works with.
Speaking of the project, Simons says, “I think fabric in relation to interiors should relate to your body. I could not sit on a piece of furniture and feel comfortable at home when it’s this new, high-tech, shiny, glam-impact fabric, it just doesn’t feel right. It’s something I think that Danish design never had—Danish design always had that warmth to it, that human aspect.” The collection is available to purchase here.
