Swedish designer Sofia Almuvist of Kompaniet designed a table set that encourages tactility and a sense of togetherness during a shared meal.
Entitled ‘Umami’, the set includes a cafe and dinner table made of ash and steel, accompanied by a range of glass bowls and a ceramic serving plate. Speaking about the intention behind her work, Alumuvist explains “Through new, exciting physical objects I want to stimulate and encourage people to return to sitting down during meals. Through my own examinations and by drawing inspiration from other cultures, I want to create a place in the home that is inviting and which offers and reminds you of the meal as a moment unto itself.” Umami was nominated for the Young Swedish Design Award 2014-15.
